Celebrate the 25th anniversary of Ohio Shorts—our annual spotlight on moving-image makers in the Buckeye State—with a special, in-person premiere screening at Columbus’s South Drive-In Theatre on April 15 and a live announcement of the $500 Jury Award.

Showcasing Ohio’s vibrant and diverse filmmaking culture, this year’s event is curated by Cincinnati-based artist and Ohio Shorts alum Prentiss Haney, who also selected the recipient of the $500 Jury Award. The program includes 20 works that were selected out of 122 submissions from around the state.

The Audience Choice Award ($300) will be determined by online voting through a link provided at the end of the program. Voting is open through April 25. Use the list below or this program for reference.

“Being a part of Ohio Shorts was pivotal in my journey and development as an artist,” Haney recounts. “It was one of the first times I saw my artistry amplified and celebrated publicly. Ohio Shorts creates space for artists to be celebrated for who they are and for the important stories they need to tell. This year’s entries are no exception. I curated a show that reflected the energy and themes of 2020: isolation, connection, caring for one another, and social uprising. My creative audacity grew because of Ohio Shorts. I hope this event will inspire these artists to continue to reflect the times and tell powerful stories.”

See below for details about the event and for COVID-19 protocols at South Drive-In. For those unable to attend the in-person screening on April 15, you’ll have a chance to catch the program streaming on this page between April 17 and May 1. Captions will be provided for the streaming program. Between April 15 and 25, you’ll also be able to cast your vote online for the $300 Audience Choice Award, which will be announced on April 28.
