Showcasing Ohio’s rich community of moving-image makers, our annual Ohio Shorts festival is back for its 27th year—submit your film today!
The festival has become known for presenting an eclectic mix of short work—from documentary, animation, and dramatic narrative to anything in between. This year’s edition will be curated by award-winning writer, director, and Columbus native Colin West. His first film festival experience was Ohio Shorts, where we screened his 2007 animated short film Amsterdam.
We welcome and encourage submissions from all ages and experience levels. Works that are included in the program will receive a $50 screening fee and be eligible for the $500 Jury Award, selected by West, and the $300 Audience Choice Award, determined by online voting.
The deadline for entries is Wednesday, March 1, 2023.
The full program will be announced the week of March 27, 2023. An in-person screening will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 7 PM. Check back on this page for more details.
For questions about Ohio Shorts 2023, please email ohioshorts@wexarts.org.
Colin West is from Columbus, Ohio, and is now based in Los Angeles and New York. His films include Linoleum (2022 SXSW Film Festival)—starring Jim Gaffigan, Rhea Seehorn, Katelyn Nacon, Michael Ian Black, and Tony Shalhoub—and Double Walker, which was cowritten with and stars Sylvie Mix. He also produced the Stacy Keach-led film Survival Skills, sponsored by Film Independent.
