"Audaciously brilliant...a genuinely shocking work."--New Yorker
Note: No one 17 or under admitted.
Austrian director Michael Haneke's remarkable film not only won the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes, but also garnered Best Actress and Best Actor awards for leads Isabelle Huppert and Benoit Magimel.
The Piano Teacher follows the story of Erika, a single woman who teaches at a prestigious music school in Vienna and lives (and sleeps) with her overprotective and controlling mother. When she takes on a good-looking and athletic young pupil, the student's infatuation with her unleashes a torrent of pent-up sadomasochistic impulses, threatening to undermine the stability of both her life and her very identity.
Haneke's film is a showcase for Huppert, who gives one of the most risk-taking performances in recent cinema.
