“Mesmerizing. Casts a strange and powerful spell. A MASTERPIECE.”—Salon.com
“Mesmerizing, mysterious, willfully perverse.”—New York Times
Carlos Reygadas captured the Best Director prize at the Cannes Film Festival for Post Tenebras Lux (“light after dark”), perhaps the iconoclastic Mexican filmmaker’s most personal and mystifying film to date. Filled with gorgeous, often hallucinogenic imagery, the film follows an affluent young couple and their children who are spending their summer at a country villa. Their seemingly idyllic domesticity is quickly revealed to include demons—literally—that reflect the deep, even violent growing pains of adulthood experienced primarily by the father.
