At first glance, Hungarian animator Réka Bucsi’s Symphony no. 42 is a melodic choreography of the minute, often-random interconnections that exist between humans and the natural world. As the short continues, however, things turn surreal when whimsical and weird penguins, foxes, hippopotami, and polar bears anthropomorphize and begin engaging with humans in a series of sequences that veer from the absurd to the grotesque.
