Join director Greta Snider and preservationist Mark Toscano for a viewing and discussion of her early films.
After diving into filmmaking at Antioch College in the early 1980s, Greta Snider moved to San Francisco and joined its thriving experimental film scene. From her earliest works, Snider has combined original and archival material to create deeply personal, experimental pieces that continually push the boundaries of nonfiction filmmaking. The early films featured in Radical Archaeologies find Snider turning her lens on a range of topics, from the San Francisco punk scene and gay men’s attitudes about the female body to toxic waste, the AIDS crisis, and more. A conversation between Snider and Mark Toscano, who restored the films, follows the program, along with a Q&A. (71 mins., 16mm)
