Jazz meets experimental film in this student-curated shorts program.

Reel Rhythms, curated by Cinéseries members Amalia Herzog, Tristan Turner, Masha Kochanenkova, and Mansi Goyal, brings together a variety of experimental short films that encapsulate the essence of jazz. Spanning over eight decades, these films not only incorporate jazz soundtracks but showcase various historical states of jazz. Featuring Donna Cameron’s The Clown (1998) and Henry Hills’s Radio Adios (1982), both on 16mm, these shorts mimic the spirit of the genre through rhythmic editing, political messaging, social commentary, kinesthetic movement, and avant-garde approaches to production. Full program lineup to come. (program approx. 80 min., digital video and 16mm)

About the series

In the words of Cinéseries’ members: Cinéseries is a student-led group that organizes monthly screenings in collaboration with the Wexner Center for the Arts. We aim to offer a space for students and the community to engage with film and expanded cinema from makers of a variety of backgrounds. We aspire to create an environment conducive to critical engagement by inviting filmmakers to showcase work that takes risks, challenges norms, and opens a conversation by devoting to a wide range of artist-centered and independent media.
