Astro Black (2007–ongoing)

Children dancing

Taking its title from Sun Ra’s 1972 album, Astro Black is an ongoing video series that features the cosmic jazz musician as the central character in an alternate, Afrofuturist history of music and culture emerging from what scholar Paul Gilroy has termed the hybrid, diasporic Black Atlantic space. In the four episodes on view, the Australian duo remix footage and sounds ranging from I Dream of Jeannie and The Matrix to Grandmaster Flash and Public Enemy. (26:20 mins., digital video)

Soda_Jerk join us to present their anarchic Terror Nullius: A Political Revenge Fable in Three Acts on October 28 as part of our Unorthodocs. festival.
