British artist-turned-filmmaker Steve McQueen won the Caméra d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival for best debut film with this first theatrical feature. It’s a gripping and unflinching account of life in Northern Ireland’s Maze Prison focused on the events surrounding the 1981 IRA hunger strike led by Bobby Sands. A key figure among the so-called Young British Artists who burst on to the art scene in the 1990s, McQueen received the 1999 Turner Prize. (96 mins., 35mm)

McQueen's visit to us comes just before Hunger opens commercially in New York (on March 20), and we're his only other stop on this trip.
