A landmark public television program, Still a Brother looks at the danger of passive acceptance of white, middle-class values by Black people.

Still a Brother: Inside the Negro Middle Class is Greaves’s first real attempt at asserting his cinematic voice to offer a multilayered interpretation of race and class in America. The documentary shows various Black middle-class communities presenting their struggles about not quite fitting into either Black or white worlds. A fascinating time capsule of members of the Black middle class assessing whether true acceptance is possible and what liberation might require. (88 mins., unrestored DCP)
