The Third Murder

(Sandome no satsuji, Hirokazu Kore-eda, 2017)

Two women standing in a kitchen, one women resting her head on the other woman's shoulder

The latest feature from celebrated Japanese director and recent Palme d'Or winner Hirokazu Kore-eda (After LifeI Wish), The Third Murder follows a lawyer whose client faces the death penalty in what appears to be an open-and-shut murder case. As he digs into the homicide, however, the lawyer discovers that the existing evidence is puzzling and contradictory, casting doubt not only on the verdict, but the concept of capital punishment in general.
