Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Turkey's leading filmmaker, won Best Director honors at Cannes last year for Three Monkeys. A reception follows Friday's screening.

Like Ceylan's Distant, it's a stunningly photographed film, but this time the director crafts a noirish mood piece reminiscent of such crime writers as Georges Simenon and James M. Cain. The tale chronicles the consequences of a corrupt politician bribing his chauffeur to take the rap for a hit-and-run fatality. As the chauffeur serves his brief jail time, the devil's bargain takes its toll on his wife and grown son, unleashing simmering tensions and sexual intrigue. (109 mins., 35mm)

Trailer:

Stay after the screening on Friday for a reception hosted by the Turkish American Association of Central Ohio (TAACO). (Originally scheduled for Thursday, September 24, the reception has been moved to Friday, September 25.)
