Tower

(Keith Maitland, 2016)

wex grid image fill

Mass school shootings were unthinkable until August 1, 1966, when a sniper atop a University of Texas at Austin tower held the campus hostage for a tense 96 minutes. In the end, 16 people were dead, three dozen were wounded, and the entire country was shaken. Tower vividly recreates the tragic event and reveals untold stories of unlikely heroes and victims with a compelling mix of archival footage, hypnotic animation, and contemporary interviews with witnesses. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at the South by Southwest Festival. (82 mins., DCP)
