Families won't want to miss our unique Zoom Family Studio opportunity: a free, hands-on cardboard fort-making experience. Join visiting Minneapolis-based artist Julian McFaul, his Adventures in Cardboard team, and Wex staff to create your very own fort, which will become part of an extraordinary, sculptural movie-screen installation for the final three Zoom films: Buster Keaton Comedy Classics, Maya the Bee Movie, and Party Mix. For these special screenings, you can grab a chair, find a spot on the floor (bring a blanket), or sit in a cardboard fort to watch the movies on a big screen in the lobby of Mershon Auditorium. What could be cooler?
After Zoom is over, the set will be adapted and reinstalled at Capitol Theatre for a spring performance featuring 850 dancers from Momentum, a Columbus-based, in-school youth dance program.
Julian McFaul is unparalleled in his use of cardboard as a medium for sculpture, performance, and theater, and for creating immersive environments for kids' activities. A founding member of Minneapolis's Adventures in Cardboard, McFaul has worked with such international artists and companies as Mabou Mines and Improbable Theatre's Basil Twist, as well as Children's Theatre Company, Theatre de la Jeune Lune, and Open Eye Figure Theatre. McFaul has been an actor, puppeteer, set designer, community arts organizer, and high school and middle school teacher.
