Winter Exhibitions 2013 Overview

Three dazzling new exhibitions open January 27

This winter, the Wexner Center presents three captivating exhibitions, in media ranging from photography to colored glass to video. All are on view January 27–April 7, 2013.

  • JUST ANNOUNCED: Christian Marclay’s The Clock, a tour-de-force video piece that literally tells the time by splicing together thousands of movie clips featuring clocks, watches, and actors talking about the time—all synced to real time. The Clock will be on view for 24 hours on four occasions during the run of the show. This marks the Midwest debut of this piece, a sensation wherever it’s been shown around the globe. Press Release

  • Josiah McElheny: Towards a Light Club, which showcases new and recent work by the glass artist (a former residency artist and a favorite among Wex followers) exploring modernist visions of utopia through magnificent glass sculptures as well as pieces that combine mirrors and projected film. Visitors will experience his master craftsmanship and dazzling environments, all rooted in intellectual concerns. Press Release.

  • On the heels of our Annie Leibovitz exhibition: More American Photographs, a touring show featuring more than 120 photographs, both from the Great Depression—by such artists as Dorothea Lange, Ben Shahn, and Walker Evans (commissioned by the Farm Security Administration)—and the Great Recession, featuring recently commissioned photographs by Catherine Opie, Sharon Lockhart, Hank Willis Thomas, and nine other contemporary artists. Press Release.

A conversation between Marclay and McElheny will be held Saturday, January 26 at 5 pm. This free conversation serves as the Wexner Center’s annual Lambert Family Lecture (galleries will open at 4 pm that day). A members’ opening follows. A press preview for all three exhibitions will be held the afternoon of Friday, January 25 (details to follow).
