Trailblazing Japanese visual artist Yayoi Kusama—perhaps best known for her Infinity Mirror Rooms and trademark polka dots—is the subject of this inspiring documentary by Ohio native and former Wex intern Heather Lenz. Rivalling Andy Warhol in her prominence (and provocations) within the artworld of the mid-1960s, Kusama battled sexism and racism after her arrival in New York in 1958, as well as the persistent hallucinations that eventually led her to the Tokyo mental institution she’s called home since 1977. Lenz joins us to discuss the wild ride that she had in creating this years-in-the-making movie. Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors is currently on view at the Cleveland Museum of Art. (80 mins., DCP)
