(Sophie Fiennes, 2017)

As unconventional as its subject, the new doc Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami follows the iconic model, singer, and actress—known for her inscrutable persona and such innovative 1980s hits as "Private Life" and "Pull Up to the Bumper"—over the last 10 years.

As unconventional as its subject, the new doc Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami follows the iconic model, singer, and actress—known for her inscrutable persona and such innovative 1980s hits as "Private Life" and "Pull Up to the Bumper"—over the last 10 years. Staying in the present and avoiding "talking head" interviews, director Fiennes weaves surprisingly intimate moments of Jones—with family in Jamaica, in the recording studio, and in Paris with photographer and one-time lover Jean-Paul Goude—together with footage from a costume-filled concert staged for the film in 2016. The "bloodlight" of the title refers to a studio light signaling live recording, while “bami” refers to a traditional Jamaican bread. Fiennes is the director of The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema (2006).
