For its new video, indigenous artist collective New Red Order—whose core contributors are Adam Khalil (Ojibway), Zack Khalil (Ojibway), and Jackson Polys (Tlingit)—refines its practical strategies to counter the “salvage mindset.” This mentality sets aside indigenous culture and sovereignty by consigning it to the past, both through the use of new, accessible technologies and the guise of museums and monuments that ultimately reaffirm the norms of European settler culture. (7 mins., video) Another short video by the artists screens on October 18 as part of Unorthodocs.
