"The most topical movie for right now."—New York Times (2008)

John Ford's film, adapted from John Steinbeck's novel, is one of the true classics of American cinema and American mythology. Tom Joad (played by Henry Fonda in one of his greatest performances) leads his dispossessed, multigenerational family out of the Oklahoma Dust Bowl on a westward trek to California during the Great Depression. The film received seven Academy Award nominations and won for best supporting actress and best director. Legendary cinematographer Gregg Toland's images strikingly capture the stark but lyrical simplicity of the era, recalling the classic Depression-era photos of Dorothea Lange and Walker Evans. (129 mins., 35mm)

This screening is presented in conjunction with the October 6–8 world premiere performances of The Builders Association's HOUSE/DIVIDED, inspired by The Grapes of Wrath.
