Catch this Seattle duo (Kimberly Morrison and longtime friend Jesse Lortz) whose star is rising fast. The Dutchess and the Duke have issued two CDs worth of spirited songs that run the gamut: punky blues-tinged tunes with vintage Stones swagger, lo-fi emotionally wrought reports on domestic strife, hope-filled looks to the future. Pitchfork pegged their debut, She's The Dutchess, He's The Duke, as an underrated gem: "It's ingredients are few—sexy, gritty male vocals, some sweetly sung co-ed harmonies, nimbly finger-picked acoustic blues guitar, restrained (if any) percussion—but its magic is palpable." The more recent Sunset/Sunrise prompted high praise as "more spacious, ambiguous, and, yes, adult songs … intriguing and affecting." See them here now. Attending this event?
