"A gaggle of New Europeans are taking machine-funk to a new level. Ellen Allien, a diminutive genius from Berlin, may be the best."--Village Voice The very influential Berlin electronic music scene is well represented in this showcase featuring futurist DJ/producer/BPitch Control label head Ellen Allien (the name is a pun on the German for "alone"). Her efforts, like those heard on her most recent release, Berlinette, have advanced the city's preeminence as a hotbed of sensuous, glitchy beats with brains.

Marco Haas—a.k.a. T. Raumschmiere—employs a blunt, stripped-down approach that matches gnarled, mega bass lines with a punky ideology and electro-charged sound blasts. Look for Hass's new album Radio Blackout, released on Mute Record's Novamute label.

Laptop artist Sascha Ring, who works under the moniker Apparat, stirs up a noisy trance ambience. Achtung everyone!
