Goat Island Performance Group When will the September roses bloom?

Interdisciplinary collaborative ensemble Goat Island Performance Group's new work, When will the September roses bloom?, questions our place in a damaged world and our aptitude at repairing it. Chicago-based Goat Island Performance Group is an interdisciplinary collaborative ensemble whose eight members have earned an international reputation with their evocative projects blending text, movement, and resonant imagery.

Starting with the question "How do you repair?" Goat Island's new performance mines diverse sources for its dance/movement sequences, theatrical scenes, and texts. The poetry of Paul Celan provides the work's title, employed alongside other source materials including the 1928 silent film The Wind, the history of teaching the alphabet in America, and household repair manuals. In this piece, Goat Island questions our place in a damaged world and our aptitude at repairing it.

To develop this work, the group is using the resources of a multiweek creative residency on campus that incorporates extensive interactions with Ohio State students involved in theater, visual arts, dance, and literature. These three work-in-progress performances conclude the residency.
