Roots music–inspired, North Carolina–based singer/songwriter M. C. Taylor, who performs under the gospel-tinged moniker Hiss Golden Messenger, shows newfound swagger on his breakthrough record Heart Like a Levee (recently released on Merge Records). Delivering his themes of adulthood and the ties that bind with home truths and deft twists, Taylor captivates listeners with his well-worn, bluesy folk sound that has taken on new dimensions with the pulse of driving rock. Fellow North Carolinian singer/songwriter Phil Cook will open the evening with songs from his recent album Southland Mission.
