The Truth Has Changed

“The people want a revolution.”—Josh Fox

News. Fake news. A smear campaign against the truth. Discover what’s at stake for our besieged democracy at this one-man show featuring the Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning filmmaker, accomplished playwright, and climate activist.

Taking us from 9/11 through Donald Trump’s election, The Truth Has Changed traces Josh Fox’s journey through an America in crisis. Perhaps best known for his award-winning documentary Gasland (2010) and his reporting on the protests at Standing Rock, Fox is one of the country’s most visible opponents of hydraulic fracturing and other practices that threaten our environment. Here he shares his perspective from a decade on the front lines—from filming the Deepwater Horizon oil spill to working alongside Senator Bernie Sanders—to capture a dizzying landscape of systemic corruption and disinformation in which our elections, climate scientists, and the truth itself are at risk.

Featuring his complex brand of storytelling honed over a career that includes directing five feature films, writing and directing over 25 plays, and a turn in SITI Company, this theatrical production offers both a warning and a way forward for us all. Premiering in New York on September 11, The Truth Has Changed will also be released as a book on the same day and developed as a film due out in 2019. Fox signs copies of the book (available for purchase) in Mershon Auditorium Lobby after the performance.

More about the artist
Josh Fox is the founder and artistic director of the International WOW Company, a nonprofit formed in 1996 to create films, plays, and other works that address socioeconomic issues and foster participation in the political process. The group’s projects include Fox’s films Memorial Day (2008); Gasland (2010), winner of Sundance’s Special Jury Award for documentary; and Awake, A Dream from Standing Rock (2017). In 2016, Fox was awarded his third Environmental Media Association award for his film How to Let Go of the World and Love All the Things Climate Can’t Change. Fox is an ongoing supporter of Senator Bernie Sanders and served on the New York delegation to the 2016 Democratic Party Platform Committee, helping to pass an historic climate amendment that addressed carbon pricing, the phasing out of natural gas power plants, and adopting tougher standards for all federal energy projects. Fox’s reporting has appeared in The Daily Beast, Rolling Stone, and NowThis, among other outlets.
