"A delicate, elaborate sprawl, All Alone…packs regret and empathy into symphonic, cinematic vignettes."—A. V. Club Seven-piece music collective Lost in the Trees, from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, merges dramatic classical touches with indie folk instrumentation to create a sound both grandly dynamic and intensely personal. Strings and brass mesh effortlessly with accordion, bells, musical saw, banjo, and mandolin to support Ari Picker's evocative lyrics centering on family life and struggles, personal striving, and the creative spark. The resulting sounds have summoned enthusiastic comparisons to Neutral Milk Hotel and Arcade Fire, as well as to classic albums such as Van Morrison's Astral Weeks and Joni Mitchell's Blue. Lost in the Trees' All Alone in an Empty House, their debut on the Anti label, plumbs imagery drawn from memories that blur facts with metaphorical symbols, and plain spoken confessionals with transcendent spiritual quests. Local chamber folk outfit Audrey & Orwell open the show. Lost in the Trees, NPR Tiny Desk Concert:
