“Aggressive yet restrained, Walker [and] his band…explore the full spectrum of what instrumental music can infer…our collective musical history.” —PopMatters

Chicago-based guitar explorer Ryley Walker’s deft fingerpicking dazzles listeners as it continues to propel his inventive compositions to new heights. The singer/songwriter gained fans worldwide with Primrose Green, his sophomore release and first for indie label Dead Oceans. Featuring some of the foremost players on the Chicago jazz scene, its songs seductively bridge their free-improv impulses with echoes of such 1960s folk-rock stylists as Van Morrison, Tim Buckley, and John Martyn.

Merging all these strands in a sonic tapestry uniquely his own, Walker comes to the Wex this fall on tour with his band to support his new release Golden Sings That Have Been Sung, out August 19 on Dead Oceans. Don’t miss them as they light up our intimate Performance Space with Walker’s visionary songs for today.

The evening begins with a set by Circuit des Yeux, fellow Chicagoan Haley Fohr’s experimental showcase for her contemplative yet emotionally charged songs.

Note: This show is standing room only.
