Join us for an evening of superlative dance artistry in an intimate setting. Famed dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov returns for rare solo concerts accompanied by noted pianist Koji Attwood. Proceeds from these performances, part of a 10-city solo tour, will support the construction of the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York City. Patrons purchasing prime seats are also entitled to attend a champagne reception with Mr. Baryshnikov immediately following the performance. SORRY, TICKETS TO THESE PERFORMANCES ARE SOLD OUT. A few $10 obstructed view tickets are still available to students. These tickets must be purchased in person at the Wexner Center ticket office with a valid student ID. "Breathtaking...a revelation." That's how the San Francisco Chronicle described Mikhail Baryshnikov's solo show, coming to Columbus Friday and Saturday, July 25 and 26. (Click on the related link to the left to read the full review). Baryshnikov's solo tour features world premieres of new works he has commissioned from American choreographers Lucinda Childs, Ruth Davidson Hahn, and Tere O'Connor, as well as from acclaimed Spanish choreographer Cesc Gelabert and London-based Michael Clark. Also featured is the local premiere of Mr. XYZ, a work by dance master Eliot Feld set to the music of Leon Redbone. The piece recently debuted in New York to critical raves. A consummate and charismatic performer, Mikhail Baryshnikov's masterly approach to modern dance is exquisitely focused in this solo program, which The Times of London called "one of the most extraordinary evenings of dance you will see this year." "No dancer has as animated a body as Baryshnikov" notes The Washington Post, "not one muscle is uninvolved, no fiber takes time off. You can call it stage presence, or theatricality; it is simply a total, absorptive commitment." The Baryshnikov Arts Center, slated to open in spring 2004, will house offices, four dance studios, and a theater. It will be designed as an international, interdisciplinary home for emerging and established artists to use as a creative laboratory, meeting place, and performing space. In mounting this benefit solo tour, Baryshnikov Productions looked to partner with like-minded organizations, such as the Wexner Center, that are actively engaged in fostering the development of adventurous new work by creative innovators, and whose patrons wholeheartedly support this mission.
