At last minimalist music pioneer Terry Riley is receiving his due for his wide impact on contemporary music's directions. Scores of young electronica and post-rock bands and fans have discovered fresh inspiration in this forerunner, from the ecstatic trance music of his sixties classics In C and Rainbow in Curved Air, to the transporting piano solos on the recent Lisbon Concert, or the surprising, guitar-based compositions on The Book of Abbeyozzud.

Drawn from sources as diverse as Chopin, Indian ragas, and John Coltrane's brilliant improvisations, RileyÌs deeply affecting music continues to fascinate as it evolves. His latest compositions spiral in intricate, interlocking cascades of sound that will transport you as you hear his superb ensemble play.

Fellow Bay Area sonic innovators Matmos, fresh from their collaboration with Bjàrk on her world tour and recent release Vespertine, open the concert with a set that illuminates the connections RileyÌs groundbreaking concepts have with todayÌs scene.
