“One of the best heavy-psych-improv-folk-blues-rock bands EVER.” —Stephen Malkmus on Träd, Gräs och Stenar
Legendary 1970s Swedish progg rock band Träd, Gräs och Stenar (“Trees, Grass and Stones”) headlines this evening of searing guitar, ecstatic improvisation, and inspired psychedelic sounds. Not to be confused with English prog rock, the progg scene had far more in common with what was later termed krautrock, with an emphasis on minimalism, spontaneous composition, and collective playing and politics. Formed in 1969 by art-school student Bo Anders Persson and informed by his mid-60s encounter with composer Terry Riley, Träd, Gräs och Stenar began to meld Riley’s transcendental, repetitive structures with rock and folk instrumentation at the same time as contemporaries the Velvet Underground and Can. Best appreciated live, the band plays the only Ohio show of its 2018 tour at the Wex.
Known for its own fuzzed-out, minimalist-meets-stoner rock jams, the Brooklyn-based band Endless Boogie opens. Before the concert, join guitarist Paul Major in the Wexner Center Store at 6 PM for a reading and signing featuring his book Feel the Music: The Psychedelic Worlds of Paul Major.
This performance is standing room only.
