Leading Norwegian art collective Verdensteatret consists of video and sound artists, painters and poets, and sculptors and software developers who together have developed an intricate audiovisual style. Combining aspects of music concerts, theatrical performances, and visual art installations, the company builds many of its multimedia productions from raw materials collected during journeys through foreign landscapes.
Inspired by a trip to the Mekong Delta in Vietnam, the collective’s new performance HANNAH employs HD drone footage, resonating scrap metal, and robotically controlled feather dusters (among other elements) to transform the stage into a mesmerizing, synesthetic instrument—one that plays with your sense of repetition and change, your perception of “now” and geological time. Verdensteatret presents the US premiere of this work at the Wex, with performances to follow at the Fusebox festival in Austin, Texas, before returning to Europe.
