This year’s DeeDee and Herb Glimcher Lecture at the Wexner Center will be delivered by Bruce Mau, one of the design world’s most innovative figures and the creative mind behind the global sustainability project Massive Change. Mau will speak Wednesday, November 7 at 7 pm in the Wexner Center’s Mershon Auditorium about his latest projects and initiatives. He will also be signing books in the Mershon lobby at 6 pm. The talk is free and open to the public.
Named a medalist by the American Institute of Graphic Arts at its 2007 AIGA Design Legends Gala, Mau is the creative director of Bruce Mau Design Inc. and founder of the Institute Without Boundaries, a studio-based postgraduate program at George Brown College in Toronto. Mau’s latest undertaking is Massive Change, an ambitious exhibition/book/online forum whose objective is to start a global movement committed to supporting a new vision of sustainable life on the planet; he is also featured in the new movie The 11th Hour, about climate change and the health of the planet.
Mau’s firm has collaborated on a wide range of projects, including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Seattle Public Library, and Netherlands Architectural Institute. In 1995, Mau collaborated with celebrated architect Rem Koolhaas to create S, M, L, XL, a 1,300-page award-winning compendium containing projects and texts generated by both Mau and Koolhaas. Mau is also a member of the Wexner Center’s International Arts Advisory Council. More information on Mau and his work can be found at www.brucemaudesign.com, www.institutewithoutboundaries.com, and www.massivechange.com.
Notes Wexner Center Director Sherri Geldin, “Bruce Mau is one of our most innovative cross-boundary thinkers, with an abundant appetite for exploring and solving some of the world’s most complex challenges. His is precisely the sort of creative mind that melds prodigious intellect with a generous dose of humor and humanism. This promises to be a fascinating evening for just about anyone with an interest in contemporary life on the planet.”
This event is presented with support from the DeeDee and Herb Glimcher Program Fund, which supports an annual lecture by a distinguished speaker in the fields of architecture and design. The fund was created through the generosity of the Glimcher family to provide lasting opportunities for Wexner Center patrons to further enhance their understanding of the art and architecture of our time. Past Glimcher lectures have been given by Zaha Hadid, Walter Hood, Petra Blaisse, and Thom Mayne.
This lecture is cosponsored by The Ohio State University’s Department of Industrial, Interior, and Visual Communication Design and the Knowlton School of Architecture.
