Wed, May 12, 2010

May 11, 2010—The Wexner Center Foundation board has appointed Shelley Bird, executive vice president of public affairs at Cardinal Health, as its newest trustee.

At Cardinal Health, a Fortune 17 health care services company based in Dublin, OH, Bird is responsible for public, government, and community relations; internal and crisis communications; corporate marketing; global branding; and the company’s Internet/intranet presence. She is also a member of the company’s executive committee, chair of the Cardinal Health Foundation board of directors, and executive sponsor of the company’s Asian Pacific American employee resource group.

“Shelley will bring to the Wexner Center board a broader perspective and invaluable experience in the areas of public relations and branding,” says Leslie H. Wexner, chair of the Wexner Center Foundation board of trustees. “In recent years, Cardinal Health has really stepped up in its support of the Wexner Center’s education programming.”

Prior to joining Cardinal Health, Bird was chief communications officer at NCR Corporation and vice president of marketing communications and public relations for Philips Consumer Communications based in the U.S. and France. She also spent more than a decade working in Asia, holding a number of senior positions with public relations firm Hill and Knowlton in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Bird has also held several regional management positions in marketing and communications with Motorola Electronics’ Asia Pacific region and owned a communications and brand consultancy in Asia. She began her career in Toronto with J. Walter Thompson, a global brand communications company.

Bird holds a master of arts degree in communication management and a doctorate in communication from the University of South Australia. She is a regular speaker on communication, change management, and public relations measurement, and she’s been honored twice with communication leadership awards from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). In 2004, Bird was named Corporate PR Professional of the Year by PR News, a leading public relations news magazine. Bird is vice chair of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), a trustee of its research foundation, and an accredited business communicator via IABC’s professional credential program.
