Ben Barnes, artistic director of the Abbey Theatre (Dublin, Ireland), discusses Irish drama in the 20th century—part of a celebration of the Abbey's 100th anniversary. This year, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, Ireland, is being celebrated by performances, discussions, and lectures on three continents. All programs illuminate the rich diversity, range, and depth of the Abbey's repertoire and new works. As part of this year-long celebration, Abbey artistic director Ben Barnes visits the Wexner Center to talk about Irish drama in the 20th century and the future of the Abbey Theatre. During his four-year tenure as artistic director, Barnes focused on developing a stronger European and international dimension in the Abbey's work and supported the development and presentation of new work. He has directed theater and opera extensively in Ireland and throughout the world. Presented by Ohio State's Department of Theatre. Cosponsored by the Wexner Center, Ohio State's College of the Arts, The Ohio State University Libraries, and CAPA.
