Bonnie Collura

Hear artist Bonnie Collura, known for her intriguing sculptures, discuss her work and career in this afternoon talk. Currently, she is working on a sculptural and video installation entitled White Light as well as a textile- and sculpture-based project entitled Imperceptible Rupture, which consists of several wearable, fused-form shells built for the “folded composite body.” 

Collura’s sculptures, drawings, and installations have been exhibited in major galleries and museums around the world, including Walker Art Center (Minneapolis) and Dallas Museum of Art, and her works are included in several international collections. She is the recipient of a 1997 Emerging Artist Award from The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, is a 2005 John F. Simon Guggenheim Fellow, a 2010 MacDowell Colony Fellow, a United States Artists Fellow, and Rolex Protégé nominee. Her work has been reviewed in the New York Times, Artforum, Art in America, ARTnews, Sculpture Magazine, BOMB Magazine, Beautiful/Decay, Time Out New York, and several other print and online publications.

Collura received her BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1994 and her MFA from Yale University in 1996. She is currently an associate professor of art at Penn State, and has previously taught at Virginia Commonwealth University, Columbia University, Yale University, Rhode Island School of Design, Tyler School of Art, University of the Arts, and The New School’s Parsons School for Design.
