George Segal (1924–2000) is one of the most iconic sculptors of the 20th century, known for his casts of human figures set in various realistic settings. Less known is Segal’s lifelong interest in photography and photographic work. In this talk, Donald Lokuta, a photographer and the longtime friend of Segal, discusses how his own work in photographing Segal’s studio in the late 1980s and 1990s initiated conversations about Segal’s interest in photography, his photographs, and the dynamic between sculpture and photography in his work and beyond.

See Lokuta’s images of Segal and his work space in Donald Lokuta: Plato’s Cave–Segal’s Studio on view at Ohio State’s Urban Arts Space from August 6 to September 12. This talk is presented in conjunction with the exhibition. Lokuta earned his PhD from Ohio State in 1975.

Cosponsored with Ohio State’s Urban Arts Space.
