DeeDee and Herb Glimcher Lecture: David Adjaye
[LIVE STREAM INFORMATION] "What can architecture be when art comes first? There are a lot of approaches to that question. What Adjaye is providing is some answers you should know about."—Time Magazine Hear from a new design leader, David Adjaye, who is gaining recognition and acclaim as one of the top architects of his generation in the United Kingdom and beyond. The principal director of Adjaye Associates (which now has offices in London, New York, and Berlin), Adjaye has a reputation as an architect with an artist's sensibility and vision. Diverse in scale, intended audience, and geographic location, his firm's projects include the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, the Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo, and the Idea Stores in London. Most recently, Adjaye Associates won the competition to build the National Museum of African American History and Culture for the Smithsonian Institution, as part of Freelon Adjaye Bond/SmithGroup. Adjaye's ingenious use of materials and ability to sculpt and showcase light have won him high regard from both the architectural community and the wider public. He has also designed temporary pavilions and private homes in the UK and New York and has collabored with artists Chris Ofili and Olafur Eliasson. In addition, he has taught at Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University, and the Royal College of Art in London, where he received his MA in architecture. He is the recipient of many honors including an Order of the British Empire for services to architecture in 2007. Born in Tanzania, Adjaye is currently pursuing a personal project to document each of Africa's capital cities, which is scheduled to culminate in a book and exhibition in 2010. Please note: Parking in the Ohio Union Garages on the evening of April 6 will be cash-in-advance at special event rates ($5 per vehicle). Parking will also be available in the Arps Garage just north of the Wexner Center and at South Campus Gateway. Cosponsored by Ohio State’s Knowlton School of Architecture.
