Starting with her early career in Belgrade in the 1970s, Marina Abramovic pioneered performance as a visual art form. By placing her own body at the center of often perilous time-based situations, she explores terrains of physical and mental extremes for both herself and her audience.

Abramovic has performed and exhibited her photography, video, and sculpture at solo and group exhibitions around the world, including the Venice Biennale and Documenta in Kassel, Germany. In 1995, together with curator Chrissie Iles, she mounted a major retrospective of her work at the Museum of Modern Art in Oxford, England. Abramovic currently lives and works in Amsterdam and New York.

Presented as part of the Visiting Artist and Critics series by Ohio State's Department of Art. Cosponsored by the Wexner Center.
