Writer, activist, and MASS MoCA curator Nato Thompson speaks about his work in this lecture presented by Ohio State's Department of Art. Nato Thompson is associate curator at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams, Massachusetts. His recent curatorial projects there include Becoming Animal, an investigation of 12 artists' understanding what it means to be human, and The Interventionists: Art in the Social Sphere, a survey of interventionist political art practices of the 1990s. Thompson also edited a related book, The Interventionists: Users' Manual for the Creative Disruption of Everyday Life (MIT Press, 2004). He is a coorganizor at the Department of Space and Land Reclamation and a strong believer in radical practice. His writings on art and politics have been published in tema celeste, Parkett, New Art Examiner, the College Art Association Art Journal, and In These Times. Nato is a contributing writer to the Journal of Aesthetics and Protest.
