Today's stream spotlights a member of the Wex family: David Stebenne, husband of Karen Simonian, who's held various positions in marketing and development at the Wex since 1998. Stebenne, who teaches law and history at Ohio State, has just released a new book, Promised Land: How the Rise of the Middle Class Transformed America, 1929–1968. Tonight brings an opportunity to connect with the author online.

Promised Land traces the trajectory of the American Middle Class in the middle third of the 20th century, starting with the New Deal policies that helped address the wealth inequality and unregulated industry of the pre-Depression era. As this relatively new socioeconomic sector ascended it wielded extraordinary influence, but some segments of society were left out entirely, and all took a back to white men—factors that would bring on the social upheaval of the 1960s and the beginning of the end of Middle Class cultural dominance.

At 7 PM tonight, Stebenne will discuss the book with former Ohio state representative and Columbus Dispatch publisher Mike Curtin on Facebook Live. The latter part of the program will be opened up for questions from viewers.
