Photo Gallery: Sarah Maldoror Opening Weekend Celebration

Feb 06, 2024

A selection of five images from the opening celebration photo gallery

We're still basking in the energy from an exhilarating weekend of events surrounding the opening of our new exhibition, Sarah Maldoror: Tricontinental Cinema. With a bustling reception, an insightful talk, an energetic dance party, a rare performance by the legendary Art Ensemble of Chicago, and an intimate screening of Maldoror's landmark film Sambizanga (with her daughter, Annouchka de Andrade, in attendance), it was a packed three days filled with joy and celebration in honor of the iconic "mother of African cinema."

Some of our favorite photos from the weekend are collected in this gallery. If you grabbed some pics, we'd love to see them, so don't forget to tag @wexarts on Instagram.

There are more Tricontinental Cinema-related screenings, talks, and performances to come over the course of the gallery show, which closes April 28. The learning guide created to accompany this exhibition has a complete list for you to check out. We hope you'll join us again soon.
