A new year is almost here and our review of 2018 at the Wex is nearing its end. But before we wrap on New Year's Eve with with a fresh update on the Film/Video Studio archive project, here's one more reshare. Over the past few months, visitors have been generously sharing thoughtful and personal responses to Mickalene Thomas: I Can't See You Without Me on social media and this blog. This playlist is an especially fun example, made by Dr. Simone C. Drake, the Hazel C. Youngberg Trustees Distinguished Professor and chair of the Department of African American and African Studies at The Ohio State University, who led a gallery talk through Thomas's exhibition September 27. It's full of amazing women artists and great energy for entering a new year.

"What emerges is the attitude of blues songstresses, the echoes of freedom in civil rights ballads and contemporary pop anthems, good ole fashion dance music, and songs celebrating the beauty of black womanhood and black women’s love affairs."
