Join us for this free talk by Hito Steyerl, a Berlin-based artist, filmmaker, and writer known for her brilliantly astute explorations of contemporary capitalism, the mechanics of the art world, and the ever-increasing power of the image. ArtReview recently ranked her at the top of their Power 100 list “because she actively attempts to disrupt this nexus of power...her work is everywhere, her ideas have urgency.” Don’t miss it!
In 2017 alone, Steyerl (b. 1966, Munich) has been the subject of solo exhibitions at such institutions as The Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Artists Space, New York; Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, Netherlands; and Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, while having her work featured at Skulptur Projekte Münster in Germany. Her writing has circulated widely, appearing in academic and art journals, including e-flux and Transversal online. Her recent publications, including Duty Free Art: Art in the Age of Planetary Civil War (Verso, 2017), are available in the Wexner Center Store.
