Join Morehshin Allahyari and Alireza Doostdar to explore art, technology, histories and myths, and the futures we imagine together through creative dialogue.
Drawing on artist Morehshin Allahyari’s interdisciplinary practice and anthropologist Alireza Doostdar’s research on science, religion, and modernity, the speakers will explore how emerging technologies and AI affect historical memory and cultural knowledge. Their conversation will consider the renewed relevance of both mythology and archives in our contemporary moment, and how artists and scholars can challenge dominant narratives and envision more just technological futures. A Q&A follows the talk. This dialogue is part of the Arts, Technology and Social Change series, a micro-residency program sponsored by Global Arts + Humanities Discovery Theme.
The Arts, Technology and Social Change series is an initiative conceived by Ohio State’s Department of History of Art, Department of Art, Wexner Center for the Arts, and the Translational Data Analytics Institute. The residency program is a cross-department platform that involves public engagement on campus and around Columbus to explore questions on technology and social change in our contemporary moment.

Morehshin Allahyari is an Iranian Kurdish artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area and assistant professor of digital media art at Stanford University. Working across 3D simulation, video, code, sculpture, and digital fabrication, she reimagines myth and history through archival research and storytelling. Her work challenges the enduring legacies of Western technological colonialism, particularly within the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Allahyari has exhibited internationally at venues including the Venice Architecture Biennale, the New Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Pompidou Centre, The Museum of Modern Art, and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
