“Sumptuous...Visconti’s masterpiece can be experienced once again in all its fearsome beauty and power.”—Martin Scorsese

Luchino Visconti’s personal favorite among his own works, Rocco and His Brothers is a stunning, operatic masterpiece with a rich emotional landscape. A widow (Katina Paxinou) and her five sons (including Renato Salvatori and soon-to-be-superstar Alain Delon) emigrate from southern Italy to the industrial north in search of better lives. Arriving in Milan, the peasant family quickly finds its traditional values challenged by the city’s many temptations. (180 mins., 4K DCP)

A Milestone Films Release. Restored by Cineteca di Bologna and L’Immagine Ritrovata laboratory in association with Titanus, TF1 Droits Audiovisuels, and The Film Foundation. Restoration funding provided by Gucci and The Film Foundation.
