In partnership with Global Water Dances Columbus, Brother(hood) Dance! leads an immersive dance workshop focused on the body and its connection to the natural world.

Following their performance in H2O Danceworks: Columbus Choreographers Showcase on April 7 and 8, Orlando Zane Hunter Jr. and Ricarrdo Valentine of Columbus-based duo Brother(hood) Dance! will guide participants in connecting their bodies to our natural environment. Both performers are also graduate students in Ohio State’s Department of Dance.

Programmed in conjunction with our current exhibitions, which similarly call attention to the cultural significance of land and water, this workshop asks us to consider how individuals can use movement to express messages around sustainability, water, and the earth.

We encourage attendees to wear comfortable clothing appropriate for movement. Lunch will be provided!

Brother(hood) Dance! chevron-down chevron-up

In the words of Brother(hood) Dance!: “As a collective, our work demonstrates how life extends beyond its own subjective limits and often tells a story about the effects of global cultural interaction over the latter half of the twentieth century. It challenges the binaries we continually reconstruct between Self and Other, between our own ‘cannibal’ and ‘civilized’ selves. By rejecting an objective truth and global cultural narratives, we find that movement reveals an inherent awkwardness, a humor that echoes our own vulnerabilities. Brother(hood) Dance!  considers movement as a metaphor for the ever-seeking man who experiences a continuous loss. Brother(hood) Dance!’s work urge us to renegotiate performance as being part of a reactive or – at times – autistic medium, commenting on oppressing themes in our contemporary society.” Learn more on the Brother(hood) Dance! website.
