Lynn Hershman Leeson

Three images of Tilda Swinton. From left to right: Swinton speaking while wearing a black shirt and jacket, in the center she wears a yellow coat with her red hair pulled back the image is covered in lines of different colors that appear to have been added digitally, the third image she lays on her side and holds a coffee cup. Her fingernails are painted blue and her shirt is also blue

Acclaimed Cleveland-born artist and filmmaker Lynn Hershman Leeson has devoted much of her five-decade career to exploring the intersections between art, technology, and our shared humanity. She is a pioneer of interactivity in narrative art, of probing the potential of art and virtual reality, and of reckoning with our diminishing privacy as technology intrudes into every aspect of our lives.

Featuring three films screened in person at the Wex and a virtual talk with Hershman Leeson on wexarts.org, this series illuminates these timely themes and highlights a rich and sustained collaboration with iconic actor Tilda Swinton.

Hershman Leeson’s work is the subject of the exhibition Lynn Hershman Leeson: Twisted, on view at the New Museum in New York City through October 3.
