Ahn Jae-huun spent many years working as an animator for such shows as The Simpsons and Family Guy, during a time when much of the studio animation work in Korea was for American films and television. Ahn then started his own studio, Meditation with a Pencil, dedicated to depicting Korean life in hand-drawn, 2D animations that celebrate the country’s scenery, culture, and traditions. The studio creates films under the ideal of “drawings that cure and colors that touch one’s heart.”
While Ahn’s films play at festivals all over the world, they have not received the attention they deserve in the US. The Wexner Center is proud to present this retrospective of his films during his extended stay on Ohio State’s campus. Ahn will be in person on September 26 first for a conversation about his work at 5 PM, then for a screening of his film Green Days (2010) at 7 PM. Both events are presented in conjunction with the annual Cartoon Crossroads Columbus festival.
