Blue Velvet Revisited

(Peter Braatz, 2016)

Ohio Premiere

Man sitting next to TV

In 1985, young German filmmaker Peter Braatz was invited to Wilmington, North Carolina, to document the filming of David Lynch’s current low-budget project Blue Velvet, which became an instant cult classic on its release. Far from a conventional behind-the-scenes documentary, Blue Velvet Revisited is an atmospheric “meditation on a movie” told through Braatz’s Super 8 footage, photographs, and audio recordings made with the full participation of Lynch and actors Kyle MacLachlan, Isabella Rossellini, Dennis Hopper, Laura Dern, Jack Nance, and Brad Dourif. Three decades later, Braatz has assembled these materials, along with an entrancing new score by Tuxedomoon and Cult With No Name, into an intoxicating and intimate look at one of cinema’s most elusive filmmakers at work.
