The Gloria of Your Imagination

Sixty years ago, Gloria, a 30-year-old waitress and single mother, was persuaded to engage in psychotherapy sessions on film with three of the most influential psychologists of the 20th century. The resulting documentary, Three Approaches to Psychotherapy (1965), was one of the primary training films in the field for years afterward. With the immersive double projection of The Gloria of Your Imagination, Reeves creates an intricate, superimposed montage of Gloria’s unguarded sessions with numerous film artifacts of her lifetime: newsreels, home movies, commercials, a beauty pageant, Cold War propaganda, and educational films. The result sees viewers absorbing the culture of that era directly through Reeves’s mix of intimate storytelling and sense of curiosity. (98 mins., 16mm and DCP)

The Gloria of Your Imagination premiered at the 2024 Science New Wave Festival in New York City and has played at many of the best festivals and cinematheques around the globe. Reeves is a past Wexner Artist Residency Award recipient and was raised in Ohio.
