Written by Juno's Diablo Cody and directed by Karyn Kusama, horror film Jennifer's Body—first considered a flop—is now deemed a queer feminist cult classic.
At the time of its release, Jennifer's Body was dismissed as just another vapid horror film appealing to straight men. Since then, "particularly after the rise of the #MeToo movement," according to the Lily, "the horror flick has taken on cult status with the help of its queer fan base."
Narrated by Needy (Amanda Seyfried), Jennifer's Body unfolds against the backdrop of her obsessive friendship with Jennifer (Megan Fox). When the pair see a touring boy band at the local bar, tragedy—and demonic possession—ensues. Featuring a soundtrack of key 2000s alt-rock and emo-pop artists (including Panic! At The Disco, Hayley Williams, and All Time Low), the film shares a song with A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, screening the following night at the Wex! (DCP, 102 mins.)
